Did you know that a parakeet is a parrot? Their correct name is Budgerigar but we also call them a budgie for short. These guys are very smart. The males can be very good talkers and can say long sentences and phrases. The parakeet family is huge with many kinds of parakeets from small to large.

Parrots Feet

Did you know that your birds feet tells you if your bird is a parrot or not? All parrots feet look the same. They have 2 toes forward and 2 toes back. Outer 2 toes are longer than the inner toes. This makes them to be able to perch easily, use them as hands in climbing and holding food and toys.  Canaries & Finches have 3 toes forward and one toe back.

This is a pair of eclectus parrots. Can you guess which one is male? If you guessed the red & blue one you are wrong. This is the only species that I know of that the female has prettier colors than the male. For years they thought these two birds were two different kinds of birds because they look so different.
